Capital Inspiration














Oil 30" x 24"




As a young teenager some of my buddies and I would hang around a nearby supermarket in the hope of being hired to haul some shopper's groceries home for a big twenty-five cent coin.

All the while I had the notion of a larger arrangement behind these brick walls.

The encouraging owner of a bookstore next door elevated my capitalist endeavor and self-image from delivery boy to loftier heights.

Lovely Neil, is this your first oil painting? The colours are clean and bright, and you're fearless when it comes to painting people. I just noticed, even Zoe made it into the picture!

Simply love this rendition. Reminds of the first generation of Steinberg's stores in the 30-40s...

The Steinbergs portrayed here was inspired by the location at Bernard and Bloomfield in Outremont.

We lived a few blocks over on Durocher and my mom only shopped there.
